CODING School

Empower students to a better future and prepare them for the careers of tomorrow.

African countries need to seize the opportunities offered by the digital economy. That means starting young. We live in an age with unprecedented demand for coding skills. At Norfafa, students have the opportunity to learn coding skills so they can either pursue coding career pathways or so they can successfully apply for college or work straight out of high school with a company.

Norfafa Coding School helps all participants how to code in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java and Python, these are some of the most popular programming languages. With a comprehensive curriculum that includes two computer science units and reinforces learning through project-based game development and web development, students will progress on a journey from basic syntax to recursion!

The academy has programs for the following three groups:

Abaayewa Coding Project

Abaayewa Coding project is a girl centered project to promote gender equality and empower women. Technology is the 21st centuries’ job driver, yet girls are under-represented in technology-related jobs. While in early age the interest is almost equal, the biggest decline happens once they become teenagers.

The mission for this project is to empower girls to get started in coding and to increase the number of women in technology, leadership and entrepreneurship. Women are given equal rights under the Constitution of Ghana, yet disparities in education, employment, and health for women remain prevalent. Our key focus is to prepare girls to become the role models of the next generation in order to shift the paradigm and to create a balance.

The program is for girls from the ages of six to 19. Abaayewa Coding Project delivers a series of events, workshops and courses. With communities and schools across Ghana we are continuously growing and increasing the number of girls and women in tech.
